With natural habitat diminishing all the time in this country, we all should be doing our hardest to create areas for wildlife in our own gardens as well as pressure government and local councils to leave large natural area.
In our own gardens we can use several methods to increase its "wildlife friendly" rating.
- Don't use slug pellets or other chemicals in the garden there is always a natural method.
- Create varied habitats for wildlife whether its a log pile, a rockery, a patch of long grass or a wildlife pond.
- Choose plants that encourage wildlife by producing berries in winter, an area of thick cover or a profusion of nectar or pollen for the insects.
- Providing bird boxes, bat boxes, hedgehog houses, frog or toad huts and insect retreats gives animals places to live in your garden so they will keep frequenting the area.
